# Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015
The Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act, 2015, was enacted to ensure that notified services provided by the Government and all public authorities under its jurisdiction are delivered to citizens in a transparent, efficient, and time-bound manner. The Act came into force on 28 April 2015. Its objective is to ensure that citizens receive services conveniently and within the prescribed time limits.
The Maharashtra State Commission for Right to Public Services has been constituted under this Act to monitor, coordinate, and supervise the delivery of notified services and to recommend improvements in the system. The Commission consists of one Chief Commissioner and six Commissioners. Its headquarters is located at the New Administrative Building, opposite Mantralaya, Mumbai, and Commissioners’ offices are located at the headquarters of the six divisions.
If eligible citizens do not receive a service within the prescribed time limit, or if the service is rejected without a valid reason, they may file a first appeal and a second appeal before the respective senior authorities. If they remain dissatisfied with the decision, they may file a third appeal before the Commission. A penalty of up to ₹5,000 per case may be imposed on the defaulting officer.
