Basic functions of the District Council:
- Providing essential services and facilities in rural areas.
- Providing seeds to farmers. Also providing information on improved and new technologies useful for agriculture.
- Establishing and running schools and libraries in rural areas.
- Establishing primary health centers and hospitals in rural areas. Also conducting preventive vaccination programs from time to time to prevent epidemic diseases.
- Implementing development schemes for SC-ST people in rural areas. Running ashram schools for tribal children and establishing free hostels for tribal students.
- Encouraging entrepreneurs to start small industries for rural employment generation.
- Construction and maintenance of bridges, roads and other public facilities in rural areas.
- Generating employment.
